Musical journey (65)

Hello again from remote Papua New Guinean! It looks like nothing much has changed and work life here is at its usual snail pace, not that I am complaining. You see, although things don't get done here like a normal well-run plant which can get frustrating, people on site are also not held accountable for a lack of work progress like what happens in a normal plant either. This is the reason why I am glad that things are at this not-too-challenging pace. People here including myself have learnt to push things along by doing the minimum possible work that will still ensure the plant runs reasonably well. It is not that we are lazy (although some people here really are), it is just that there are SO many things wrong here that if you try to dig deeper, you will find shit that you cannot handle!

That being said, I am also at the point where I will not be upset if I lose this PNG gig as I am quite sick of how the fly-in/fly-out roster is turning my life upside down. If I am not counting down to my break, I would be counting down to going back on sitethere is just no constant. The worst thing is the pain of leaving my boo every four weeks which is really taking a toll on both of us (this impacts me more than him). Oh well, at least I am still earning an OK salary and I can at least try to make the best out of my time here. Luckily there is still access to social media which makes life more bearable.

Talking about social media which includes blogging, it is time to add a new musical post. This time I am offering an acoustic rendition of Britney Spear's "Toxic". Trashy as it is, it is actually one of my favourite songs of hers. As you know, I crash friends' gigs from time to time as a way to not only satiate my yearning to perform in front of a live audience but also to provide material for my blog. This was recorded at my best pal's gig at Harry's in Singapore's downtown Orchard Road with her husband on the cajon (we so need to do this again the next time I visit!).

I am not sure if one can be slutty vocally but that was the feel I was going for that night. I might be good at being a physical slut (hehe) but this is my first attempt at being a musical slut (if there is even such a thing). Tell me if I was successful.

Lastly, on the eve of 2016, I wish all of my blog readers a very Happy New Year and a fabulous, prosperous and safe year ahead!

2015 through Facebook (6)

Merry Christmas to all my blog readers from Papua New Guinea (yes I am back in this god-forsaken land)! By the way I finally signed my extended contract yesterday and so it seems that I am stuck here doing the fly-in/fly-out business for a little while longer (till the end of June 2016 as the contract stands now). There is also talk that I might have to do this till the end of next year but at this point it is just talk and there is a lot of "just talk" here in Papua New Guinea which is far easier than doing the real work.

Enough whingeing for now. This will be the last post in my 2015 look-back series (previous posts in this series can be found here - 1 2 3 4 5). I wonder how many people look back at what they have put on Facebook for the past year but I can tell those who don't that they should. I had fun going through my previous thoughts, often pausing for a moment to reflect on whether or not I have changed or moved on from that issue. I guess that is what introspection is all about. In this concluding post, the theme will be one that is familiar to all, albeit with a totally gay flavour.

===============================================

Love, Dating, Sex and All Things Gay

===============================================

07-Jan: I FINALLY get why people describe themselves as "sane and sorted" in their profiles on gay dating apps. They are simply trying their best to euphemise "I am an average guy". That's not a euphemism people, it's something that makes you a tool, not cool!

===============================================

18-Jan: If I were to create a gay dating app, I will make sure that it doesn't require "race" to be included as an attribute just like "religion" is not needed as well. This will give people one less reason to filter and discriminate and thus help to open their eyes up to colour-neutral beauty. And talking about eyes, if you have them and still can't get the information you need from my profile picture, you're not intelligent enough to use a dating app.

===============================================

23-Apr: A Grindr profile reads "Prefer younger, race not important".
If race is not important, why does it need to be mentioned at all???

===============================================

30-Apr: I don't usually post people's profiles or pictures but this I really have to share. A guy sent me this photo of himself on Scruff and said "love to dominate you". Seriously WTF right???

===============================================

04-Jun: ...and I did! You should see how I hop like a bunny to the door when Ision comes home from work! I simply get this sudden burst of energy out of nowhere and it's strangely amazing!

===============================================

07-Jun: This is freaking brilliant! Whoever is the first to capitalise on this is sure to make big bucks. The wonderful thing is he doesn't even need to invest much on encryption/security because these men of the cloth get caught so frequently with dicks in them that discretion is not a pre-requisite anymore. The quelling of horniness trumps everything and nothing gets you hornier than living and breathing church 24-Jul.

===============================================

12-Jun: Now that this has taken off, the logical next step is to have an all-Asian version. Only when this happens will I remotely consider working in the service industry!

===============================================

30-Aug: OK, I was thinking of going to this new city joint that features a gay night on Fridays but seeing how twinky it is and how many girls there are based on pictures from the previous week, I am SO glad I did not go. How can a gay night be deemed gay without a hot body in sight or at least one that is topless?

===============================================

07-Oct: I rejected a white guy here in Singapore on Scruff last night and he turned nasty. He said it is my privilege to be with a white guy like him. In my reply, I told him white guys like him in Australia where I live are a dime and dozen and asked him to cherish his white privilege while he still can in this foreign talent-hungry country for he will not have that outside of Asia. I also commented that he should brush up on his native language as he spelt "privilege" wrongly. I concluded by saying that he is a troll and deserves to be blocked, and he was.

===============================================

18-Oct: My friend commented that there's an increasing number of white guys offering gay escort services in Singapore. Here is one of them. These foreign talents do have important skills though, and photoshopping is one of them. Look at the out-of-this-world waist!

===============================================

24-Oct: Was shopping at Mannhaus just now and got quite intrigued by the many models of cute little USB vibrators. Am I getting too ancient or vanilla to be viewing that as novelty? I guess I am in need of a serious brush up on kink. At the other end of the spectrum however, boo was perfectly at home and never fails to leave that shop without a purchase.

===============================================

26-Oct: I think there's a SERIOUS shortage of tops in the Asian gay community all around the world. They should really teach topping as part of the sex-ed curriculum in school!

===============================================

06-Nov: This is every naturist's favourite kind of event and is happening just in time for my upcoming break! I must organise transport and possibly someone to share tents with before I book the tickets though (no one has responded positively so far). I have been to the 2013 event and know it's good. So looking forward to this!

===============================================

13-Nov: I learnt a new term today - a cisgendered person as opposed to a transgendered one. My time with organic chemistry should have made me realise long ago that anything trans will have a cis counterpart! There are just so many sexual and gender permutations in the GLBTI community! For instance, a male lesbian is a male-bodied person who identifies as a lesbian and "ze"/"hir" are gender-neutral pronouns used by gender-variant persons which replace "he/she" and "his/hers" respectively! Since we are on this topic, I finally managed to put an actual name to one of my favourite activities - urolagnia!

===============================================

28-Nov: Pure gold! And I totally agree!

===============================================

30-Nov: Someone with a pictureless profile on Grindr actually dared ask me whether we could meet without him sending a picture over. I cannot believe how many seriously-closeted people there are out there who have the gall to expect others to agree to something like that. Absolutely outrageous!

===============================================

06-Dec: In my opinion, homophobia is worse than misogyny unless your argument is "it's far easier to hide your homosexuality than your gender" or if you are a lesbian. However being female is not a crime in any country whereas being gay is in many so I guess there is no uncertainty there as to which side should stop complaining.

===============================================

07-Dec: Though this is not exactly the reason why I decided to leave Singapore, it is this kind of freedom that pulled me away from my hometown more than 7 years ago. It'll be my first time at this event tonight and I hope it'll be great fun. Nudists in Singapore, eat your hearts out!

===============================================

08-Dec: ADAM was fun but I was again reminded with the "hierarchy of cruising" which is what I hate most about it. I would rather stay in my comfort zone of online admirers than subject myself to predation in the real world where the cruel laws of the food chain are strictly followed.

===============================================

09-Dec: I don't even know why gay men bother to donate blood let alone HIV+ gay men. This is not altruism it is foolishness. If Red Cross is not willing to change its ban on gay blood, IT MEANS THEY DON'T WANT GAY BLOOD! People who can't hear their repeated loud and clear message should get their ears or even their brains checked!

===============================================

14-Dec: This sounds like the plot of a perfect porno. Swap the female stripper with a muscle bear and you'll have a video worth downloading! But seriously, other than the best man being a money-hungry slut, I can't think of any other reason why someone would air such a piece of highly embarrassing dirty laundry in court!

===============================================

14-Dec: Why do I always get requests for free fitness advice on gay dating sites? To be honest I don't take that as a compliment at all. If I want to dole out workout tips, I would become a personal trainer and I am a firm unbeliever of hiring them!

2015 through Facebook (5)

Sometimes I cannot believe how quickly time passes all of us by. I still remember the eve of 2000 and now 15 years older, I am the product of all that has happened to me and around me since over those years. A few days ago I have started the first part of my Facebook views on issues related to lifestyle, culture, health and fitness and now it is time for the second part. The other posts in this series can be found here - 1 2 3 4 6.

===============================================

Lifestyle, Culture, Health and Fitness (Part 2)

===============================================

21-Aug: Hmmm... Whatsapp uses so little data so being able to send Whatsapp messages via the Internet is not that attractive... unless you have run out of data altogether.

===============================================

25-Aug: I'm not being mean here but how is this "ripped abs and pumped pectorals"? This guy (Ryan Phillippe) like a lot of his other colleagues is a super well-paid Hollywood actor whose job requires a lean and toned body and he has the means and resources to engage the best trainers and nutritionists on this planet... and this is how good he can go? I am a nerdy engineer and a commoner of almost his age and yet I think I did better than him body-wise. There are just so many reasons why people (males and females alike) shouldn't idolise the bodies of celebrities and instead spend that otherwise wasted time and energy building the body they want to worship.

===============================================

27-Aug: I've learnt two new things today. One, contrary to popular belief the porn industry is not dead at all... as long as you market it to the dead. Two, ghosts actually like their porn actresses in neon pink. Mark my words, S&M paraphernalia will be next!

===============================================

29-Aug: I don't understand why people hire expensive personal trainers and then spend so much time chatting with them. If I were to hire one, I will instruct him from day one that I won't be socialising with him for a single second and he shouldn't be touching his hand-phone at all. I will make sure I use up all of his time to achieve my fitness goals. But then again if I were that strict and disciplined, I wouldn't require a personal trainer in the first place. This brings me to the conclusion that those who hire personal trainers on a regular basis are ill-disciplined people who lack friends to chat with.

===============================================

01-Sep: I have never thought that travelling is good value for money and this article further strengthens my view. This couple in the story and many others alike have not even scratched the surface of their problems when they now have zilch saved up for their retirement.

===============================================

03-Sep: People always say "when one door closes, another one opens" but little do they know that it doesn't open automatically. You have to first search long and hard for the door and then fight with many others to the death to get the key to unlock it.

===============================================

17-Sep: Here is further proof that self-help books are full of shit!

===============================================

03-Oct: Mental note - Add Bedok Town Park to the list. Roy what do you think?

===============================================

09-Oct: I don't know why people use the snooze function on a daily basis. If you know you must wake up by a certain time, why not just set your alarm clock to that time and then make sure you get up on time? Wouldn't that maximise uninterrupted sleep? Case in point - the tenant staying in the room next to mine at my mum's. Your snooze reminder is bloody irritating!

===============================================

21-Oct: During my last stint in Papua New Guinea I learnt that someone five years younger than me is earning twice my salary in the same company I am working for doing roughly the same type of work as I am. This just gives me more reason to not work too hard when I am in PNG. When you are paid peanuts, your output will also be peanuts.

===============================================

25-Oct: Please, no more man-buns or top-knots! Even many gorgeous men can't pull one off, so what chance do those countless wannabes who lazily convert their existing dos into these follicular atrocities without additional styling have (they often do not even have enough hair or length to do it)? This must be one of the worst-looking fads in modern-day history, and I thought hipster beards were bad enough!

===============================================

27-Oct: I don't understand why people whinge and be all self-righteous about having to cull "friends" on Facebook. It's most likely their fault in the first place for accepting requests so indiscriminately!

===============================================

29-Oct: "The prettier your underwear, the lonelier you are". I can't help but to agree with such wise words. PS: I don't wear underwear.

===============================================

12-Nov: For a person who is frugal to the max, the possible GST increase from 10% to 15% will not affect me that much but still it is a substantial rise. I hope it doesn't happen.

===============================================

20-Nov: Many people on social networks are friend-collectors and they basically start a new account when the 5000-friends limit is reached. I don't see the point of doing that on Facebook but I find it logical if done on LinkedIn because in bad economic times when people are desperate, they cast a wide net to get employed in order to survive. I just got a request to join my LinkedIn network by an infantry officer with US Army stationed in Canberra. She must be either using LinkedIn as if it were Facebook or really desperate to leave the army!

===============================================

22-Nov: I don't like the new Woolworth's Rewards system not only because I prefer the old one with the Qantas Frequent Flyer points credit. This new scheme is such a scam. This loaf of bread sometimes sells for $3.50 and now they have simply jacked up the price by $2 and then refund the $2 as Woolworth's dollars which you cannot claim until you collect at least ten of such dollars. Essentially they are holding on to large sums of your money without paying you interest. What a scam!

===============================================

23-Nov: Conventional thinking would be - if the food quality is already bad in a non-all-you-can-eat setting, how can it be better when it is all-you-can-eat? I have always loved KFC so whatever the quality, this restaurant is still worth a visit if it is in business the next time I go to Japan!

===============================================

 26-Nov: Don't get me wrong I love muscular men but this looks out of this world. In my opinion this has gone past the bounds of sexiness into scary territory.

===============================================

02-Dec: Admittedly this guy is hot but look at the hashtag titles he has labelled himself with. If social media were to manifest itself in the physical realm, he would be walking right in front of passers-by and saying “hey, I am sexy, cute and fit” and no one would ever do that. However Facebook and the like still manage to continue breeding a generation of narcissists too confident for their own good (me included). That being said, I rather hide in this little comfort zone forever than to face harshness we call the real world.

===============================================

06-Dec: Envying people who go to expensive restaurants, take expensive vacations and buy expensive things is a thing of the distant past for me. Because of how deep I am set in my frugal ways, I pity them and feel fortunate that I did not waste all that money. A fine line separates being extreme and being contented. For me, being at the border has been working very well so far.

===============================================

08-Dec: Cheap dinner treat for booboo. Who says dining out on good food that your partner likes needs to cost an arm and a leg? These little simple joys are what add meaning to my life now. As the saying goes - when your husband is happy you are happy too.

===============================================

10-Dec: 70% of Australian men are obese and this is absolutely mind-boggling! Something drastic needs to be done. A tax on junk food and making healthy food cheaper comes to mind. However I am not sure how we can strengthen the resolve of weak-willed individuals after they repeatedly commit and fail to shed the kilos. Any ideas?

===============================================

15-Dec: Looks like Woolworth's heard the complaints loud and clear and is currently in damage control, re-introducing the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program in a sketchy fashion and in a still very unsatisfactory form!

2015 through Facebook (4)

The one-week countdown to my departure for Papua New Guinea has started and I have been banned from posting on Facebook for the rest of the year due to the out-of-control prudes and jealous people out there, not to mention the unsupportive and senseless Facebook censors. However all that is not going to stop me from continuing with my next post in the "2015 through Facebook" series. After the first three posts covering a mix of serious and not-so-serious themes, we will now look at the important issues that I was concerned with for 2015. The other posts in this series can be found here - 1 2 3 5 6.

===============================================

Life, Culture, Health and Fitness (Part 1)

===============================================

02-Jan: I get someone else to do it. Trust me it's MUCH better. Selfie sticks look as silly as people taking pictures using their tablets, both of which I will never do.

===============================================

21-Feb: What's with all the condo advertisements on TV? Are Singaporeans really that rich? Or are they in love with being in debt and living beyond their means?

===============================================

21-Feb: Having uninterrupted 4G connection whilst being underground in a train is called the norm, not high technology. Australia you should upgrade yourself like the rest of the developed and developing world. My tax dollars shouldn't just be used to finance bludgers and the ilk.

===============================================

27-Feb: Putting a face to someone who chose suicide and succeeded is really sobering. The suicide note on Facebook and all the desperate and visceral comments trying to save him to no avail all really got to me pretty bad. Even though I don't know him, I am now quite affected. Love and cherish all those around you especially those who matter to you. Love them with all your might and show them they are wanted, needed and treasured every second of the day...

===============================================

28-Feb: ... and when you think about the grief the people left behind have to deal with, you'll see that most if not all the current problems in your lives are minor and not worth fretting over. Count yourself lucky and blessed that your loved ones are still alive and have a chance to be loved by you.

===============================================

5-Mar: Naturism in Singapore. Who would have thought it can actually happen in such a closed-minded nation and at such a scenic location with clean white sand and pristine blue water? I will definitely visit again with other fellow nudists and make it a party to remember!

===============================================

19-Apr: One of my mantras - if you are not born with good looks, work extra hard to get a good body as that is the best natural thing you can do short of plastic surgery.

===============================================

23-Apr: I have an even simpler process with only 2 questions that apply to all types of purchases and it works EVERY single time.
Q1: Do you need it?
Q2: Do you need it now?

===============================================

07-May: I seldom share pics like these but this by far contains the most succinct message ever. That being said, it is not impossible to conform, you just have to be extra focussed and disciplined. I hated studying in the rigid Singaporean education system but yet I thrived.

===============================================

12-May: The elite within the top 1% has unleashed a glimpse of its obscene wealth upon the rest of the world, "obscene" being an obvious understatement.

===============================================

27-May: One of my pet peeves on this topic of privilege is when I hear people say things like "I am not rich, it's my parents who are rich". HELLO! Having rich parents makes all the difference in life! You'd be truly stupid if you seriously don't think so.

===============================================

27-May: ...and since we're on the topic of privilege, how's this for further deepening the rift between the top 1% and us mere mortals? The most irritating thing is you can't even buy a membership as it is by-invitation only! You need to have wealth AND status! Geez!

===============================================

14-Jun: A little extreme but this by far is the most detailed piece about conditioning for a big shoot I've ever read. If I were to try this out, I need some time to first train my body to drink 4 gallons (approx. 15 litres) of water a day!

===============================================

16-Jun: I have never been to a real comic con before. Maybe this will ease me into a full-blown one. Or should it be the other way round?

===============================================

22-Jun: I can't believe there are so many people out there who feel it's ok to not gym while on vacation. That's outright blasphemous! Unlike them I am a devout member of the gay church a.k.a gym.

===============================================

23-Jun: Tourism ad at the train station here in Singapore. Little do the people here know that this picture has been heavily photoshopped. And I don't remember there's any restaurant near that location let alone one with that view. What false advertising.

===============================================

06-Jul: I'd be the first to celebrate with a purchase should this eventuates into reality but I highly doubt the legalisation of MDMA and its sale over-the-counter is ever going to see the light of the Australian day!

===============================================

06-Aug: Perhaps this is true... but then again how do you also explain it is usually the non-white students who top the class as well?

===============================================

07-Aug: Meh! Ision and I have been doing this for the longest time and Melbourne is much colder. What's a little cold going to do? Don't you have extra clothes that you can put on???

===============================================

14-Aug: Finally the Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus are out, which means that the Note Edge 2 will be released soon. That is the one I am eyeing.

===============================================

16-Aug: First world problem #1432: I hate it when people grunt loudly in the gym. Just control yourself already or reduce the weight for goodness sake. When I already dislike that so much coming from even cute guys, can you imagine how I felt when I encountered today for the first time in my life a woman who did it? MAJOR irritation!

===============================================

19-Aug: Tell me, how can this not be a result of steroids and/or human growth hormones? If people frown upon doping and illegal supplements in the world of competitive sports, AFL, cycling and the like are certainly not the worst culprits when compared to how blatant this is. It never fails to baffle me how the use of steroids is both mandatory yet illegal at the same time in the bodybuilding arena. I guess it is like what my father-in-law said - it is fast becoming a contest between pharmaceutical companies rather than sportspeople.

2015 through Facebook (3)

For the last month of 2015, I have started a series of posts looking back at the views I have expressed on Facebook for the past year. We are done with current affairs and political issues and now let's move on to a more light-hearted subject. The rest of then posts in this series can be found here - 1 2 4 5 6.

===============================================

Movies, TV, Music and Gaming

===============================================

01-Jan: Talk about being typecast. Has Liam Neeson been involved in other movie genre of late?

===============================================

06-Apr: A music clip of mine has been taken down from YouTube for copyright infringement. There are so many violators out there and I am that lucky to be fingered (and not in the good way)!

===============================================

21-Apr: I don't think you will get to see this on Australian TV anytime soon. Australia follows America's footsteps in so many areas, so why not this one?

===============================================

22-Apr: I can't believe I haven't watched most of these. I am not fit to be called a horror movie fan at all!

===============================================

12-May: Faye Wong's new song. Definitely a must-listen!

===============================================

12-Jun: Yay! One of my favourite shows of all time might be coming back!

===============================================

23-Jul: Now that's a movie poster us nudists can identify with!

===============================================

27-Jul: OMG, talk about low-grade movies! Is there a letter after Z I can use here? Poor Tara Reid...

===============================================

05-Aug: Finally, Jonathan Rhys Meyers in a gay movie. This is the one to watch!

===============================================

07-Aug: Finally the rumours have been confirmed! Prison Break, one of my favourite shows is back! Now that Wentworth Miller has come out as gay since the series ended, how differently will I view his character now?

===============================================

12-Aug: Boo hoo hoo... I hope with enough public pressure they will relent and release it on Xbox 360... one can always hope... That being said, this DLC is a quarter of the price of the actual game and I must say this drip-feeding and -charging of content by developers is getting a little out of hand.

===============================================

20-Aug: I've downloaded what looks like a really good movie and I can't wait to watch it. I didn't know one of the last Robin Williams films would be a gay one!

===============================================

24-Aug: I know I am perpetuating this but I can't believe such triviality is what's regarded as news nowadays. Although I shudder for mankind, I guess there has been progress for at least we are no longer debating over the freaking colour of the dress!

===============================================

02-Oct: Finally got to listen to Faye Wong's new song. It is different (especially the non-chorus verses) but nice.

===============================================

04-Oct: We need more movie posters like these where men are objectified as sex symbols! Who cares if this is a horror movie?

===============================================

19-Oct: Is it wrong that I feel inspired by this?

===============================================

21-Oct: Can you believe these are posters from two different movies? Oh Nicholas Cage, your acting career has died years ago along with your real hair and facial expressions, why are you still here?

===============================================

07-Nov: OMG!!! THIS!!! Although the tracks are not new and I have all of them in four separate albums, I still want to own this new piece of Faye Wong!

===============================================

18-Nov: Finally the meaning of "tiger blood" becomes clearer.

===============================================
