Homecoming (part 1)

I recently took a trip back home which I haven't done since the COVID outbreak. I remember when I last left Singapore, there was a shortage of masks and thermometers causing long queues at pharmacies all over the country. That was a time of great fear and uncertainty when COVID first made its way around the globe in January 2020. Then we had the longest lock down in Melbourne and travel became too difficult even after that. Hence, trips back to Singapore fell down my priority list.

However, I was clearly aware that Mummy is growing older and that I need to visit her as much as I can. With that in mind, I finally made this 3-week trip. In the next few posts, I'll be providing a summary of the entire trip through Facebook posts arranged in chronological order, which included Bangkok and Johor Bahru visits. Enjoy!

Singapore, I'll see you in 9.5 hours! Goodnight all! #TimeFor40Winks

First order of the day. Mummy force-feeding me durian at 5am (not that I'm complaining). Now a short beauty sleep before breakfast. #KingOfFruits

After a hearty breakfast, we're now on the road to shopping and more eating with Mummy dearest. ❤️❤️❤️

Lunching with the women in my life. This is what I came home for.

Coffee with a bit of #Flex with sis.

Lunch is served. Charcoal BBQ pork wanton noodle with added chicken feet. A little bit pricey for hawker centre food but it's worth it.

Should I or shouldn't I? Why must it be so difficult?

OK, I opted for Indian rojak and popiah. Maybe marginally worse than Maccas calorie-wise but I know it's gonna be so much better in taste.

Roti prata a.k.a. breakfast of champions. I told my mum at this consumption rate, I'd be a real fatty if I didn't exercise.

Lunch is served. One local delicacy now crossed off my list. #KwayChap

Seems like a simple photo with Mummy dearest? No, this photo took many takes and coffee spills to perfect! But it's worth it!

I sprained my back 2 days ago gymming (that was a lousy gym). The pain was bad but it looks like I've recovered well enough for a topless jog around the neighbourhood. All sweaty now! #Flex #Exhibitionist

I miss local fare deeply as I no longer live in SG but even if I were still here, I'll always pick this over pretentious ATAS food that the locals love. I think I'll always remain a kampung boy at heart. #YongTauFoo

If this isn't confused food identity, I don't know what is. #NotProperFusion

Sweet victory, a little one but yummy nonetheless. #CocoaNutPie #McDonalds

You think Singapore-style char kway teow is easy to find outside of Singapore? Well, think again. Hence, it's one of the must-haves whenever I am back. #NoHum

And we're off! I'm so going to eat and shop till I drop! #Flex #Holiday
PS: You'd think this crazy person has a biceps fetish... 🤔

Does this look like someone who has just been kneaded to death? #ThaiMassage #TwoHours #Flex

If they tell you size doesn't matter, they are lying. #ItIsEverything #GiganticSpicyPorkRibs #NightMarket

This is home for 3 nights. Waking up now for yummy local breakkie. PS: The gym sucks so no weight training for me here. #Hungry

The trip to Bangkok continues in my next post. The entire 5-part series can be found here: 1 2 3 4 5.
