It's been a challenging Rotation #15 with one of the worst civil unrest in recent years in Port Moresby. I guess years of government corruption finally boiled over. There were also multiple issues at site including poor network, WiFi outage, a leaking room toilet, being locked out of my room and then locked in all because of a faulty door knob, a tree falling on gas pipeline due to strong winds, multiple site evacuations due to gas releases and the list goes on.
But no matter how bad it is, I know there's an end to the 28 days. The weekly video chats with my 🥟🥟 also helps a lot. And today is my last day on site as I fly to the Port Moresby office tomorrow to spend some time with colleagues there, and then back home the next day. Now that the 14-day emergency period is over (since two days ago), I hope the unrest in the city has truly died down and the Port Moresby office is safe again.
Fortunately, it's not all bleak, doom and gloom because there's actually some good news. My PNG visa has been extended for another 3 years! It was a little nerve-racking not having my passport with me (I only get to collect it with the visa affixed on it tomorrow, just a day before I fly back to Australia). Also, I'll be in Singapore for Chinese New Year this year, so I'll get to enjoy all the festivities and food! Growing up, I used to think that the CNY songs were cheesy but now I miss them as they signify the time of the year when family and friends reunite, just like what I'll be doing in a few days' time!
It's also the height of summer in Australia right now and Singapore will be even hotter, which is the perfect time and place to have some fun. To celebrate summer and all the action it brings, I've written what I think is my catchiest song to date. I seldom write songs with rap in them but when I do, I always enjoy it greatly. So come have a listen to this month's musical offering and then go out and catch some one night love!
