Musical journey (162)

The last time I posted a musical cover (here) was just before I left for my previous Singapore trip. This time, I have another cover now that I've returned from my latest trip back home where I spent Chinese New Year with the family. The song I'm covering is by the same singer 李荣浩 and is called "模特" or "Model" (one of my favourite songs of his). I had two karaoke sessions when I was in Singapore and his songs always feature high on my list to sing.

Work wise, I'm due to depart for my next rotation tomorrow, and after the recent unrest in Port Moresby and political instability in the country, there's even more bad news with critical fuel shortage and the worst tribal killings in years. The Akom village mentioned in the last article is about 150-200km north of my camp and perhaps this is why many people refuse to work in Papua New Guinea. It's also likely not wrong to say that PNG is one of most dangerous places on the planet to work in, especially when you look at the threat/violence level vs law enforcement ratio.

I always tell others that they have to live or work in PNG to really experience how unusual the country is. Where people can be so friendly, yet violent in equal measure. Where landscapes can be so pristine yet hide much danger. Where natural resources are plentiful yet the country still so poor and backward. To the last point, I don't blame the foreign companies like the one I work for, but the corrupt government (and that's a whole other long story).

All that being said, we all have to pay the bills and pay them we must, so onward I head to Rotation #16 tomorrow. I'll post pictures from the Singapore trip soon but in the meantime, enjoy this month's musical journey.
